Soy products can reduce hypertension

Isoflavones, a compound found in foods such as soy milk, tofu and peanuts may help lower blood pressure in young adults, says a study from Columbia University. Isoflavones are thought to work on reducing blood pressure by increasing the enzymes that make nitric oxide. Isoflavones dilate the vessels by increasing the release of nitric oxide. Soy-based diet lowered diastolic blood pressure more in subjects with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension.
